Nigerian national arrested for alleged drug dealing

Police arrested a Nigerian migrant (35) in Potchefstroom for alleged drug dealing after acting on information received from the public.

The arrest occurred on Friday, July 3, after receiving the tip-off about suspected drugs concealed in an alley behind a local bakery.

According to NW police spokesperson, Capt. Majang Skalkie, police followed up on additional leads that led them to a flat where the suspect had allegedly been seen.

“The suspect was searched, and police allegedly found drugs, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash, in his possession. He was immediately arrested for allegedly dealing in drugs,” added Skalkie.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, condemned the sale and distribution of illegal drugs, describing them as a serious threat to the safety and well-being of communities.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court on Monday, July 6, on a charge of dealing in drugs.
