Motorists should be aware of road closures
This is part of the ongoing upgrading of the Promosa and Poortjiedam Bulk Sewer Line project in the next three months.
Motorists in Potchefstroom have had to experience a higher level of traffic congestion, due to sewer line upgrades at Piet Bosman Street this week.
The affected roads and closure dates are:
- Piet Bosman Street: September 7-11
- Detour: Retief Street & Dwars Street
- Hoffman Street: September 28 – October 7
- Detour: Maree Street & R53
- Peter Mokaba Street: October 12-21.
- Detour: Spruit Street & R53
According to the JB Marks Local Municipality spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite, the closures are necessary for construction work to commence safely, with several existing services running alongside the affected roads. These include electrical cables, water and sewer pipelines and stormwater infrastructure.
Trained flag personnel will also be stationed at key points during peak traffic periods.
“Dust-suppression measures, including the use of water trucks, will also be implemented to limit dust and minimise the impact on surrounding residents and motorists,” adds Tshite.
The municipality urges residents and motorists to plan their journeys, obey temporary traffic signs and follow the instructions of traffic-control personnel.
