A quick response by local security and community patrollers resulted in the arrest of a man following a suspected theft in Rocher Street, Potchefstroom, during the early hours of Thurday morning, September 24.

According to information provided, Mooirivier Beskerming CCTV operators spotted a suspicious man allegedly removing items from a residential property and immediately alerted community patrollers.

CPF community patrollers and AfriForum Neighbourhood Watch members responded to the area.

Upon their arrival, the man had already been detained by the Mooirivier Beskerming Reaction Unit.

Further investigation reportedly linked the man to the theft of items, including CCTV equipment and solar lights, from residential properties in the area.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) was contacted and the suspect was handed over to police.

He was subsequently arrested on allegations of theft and possession of housebreaking implements.

The incident highlights the importance of combining technology with a rapid response on the ground.
