Hip-hop of the highest order in Ikageng

The event brought together five major elements of hip-hop culture, which included Bboying, graffiti, BMX, rap and skateboarding.

The streets of Ikageng in Extension 7 was turned into a hip-hop paradise last month when local hip-hop enthusiasts gathered at 13168 Thatong Street for the Clash of the Elements event.

The event that was hosted on September 19, brought together five major elements of hip-hop culture, which included Bboying, graffiti, BMX, rap and skateboarding. This created a platform for local artists, dancers and street-culture enthusiasts to showcase their talents.

One of the highlights of the event was the emphasis on breakdancing and street culture. Dancers could compete, freestyle and connect through the culture. Graffiti played a major role with artists showcasing their creativity through large-scale street-art pieces.

Event organiser and local breaker Bboy Nanky (Oupanyana Moeketsane) emphasised the importance of uniting various aspects of hip-hop culture.

“Hip-hop is more than just music. It is a culture that gives young people a way to express themselves through dance, art, music and movement,” said Nanky.

The event also featured the Clash of the Elements Main Battle, alongside performances and freestyle sessions that kept the crowd engaged.

Nanky added that the event was intended to create a space where established artists and emerging talent could meet, perform and inspire one another.
