Suspect on the run after stolen vehicle recovered near Mooirivier Mall
Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect may have escaped with the assistance of another vehicle.
Authorities remain on high alert in Potchefstroom after a suspected stolen vehicle was recovered on near James Moroka Lane on Monday morning, May 11, prompting an active manhunt in the area.
The incident unfolded between Trim Park and Mooirivier Mall, where law enforcement officials responded after the vehicle was allegedly driven into a bridge. The driver fled the scene on foot, sparking a search operation involving police units and K9 members.
According to police spokesperson Anne Magakoe, preliminary investigations indicate the suspect may have escaped with the assistance of another vehicle.
“Police can confirm that a stolen vehicle was recovered near James Moroka Lane between Trim Park and Mooirivier after it was allegedly driven into a bridge. The suspect fled the scene on foot and K9 members assisted in the search,” she said.
Magakoe added that early indications suggest the suspect ran through Trim Park before reaching the road, where they may have been picked up.
“Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect may have been picked up by another vehicle after running through Trim Park to the road. Police investigations and the search for the suspect are ongoing,” she said.
Authorities have urged residents, students and motorists to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious individuals or activity to the police immediately.
