NWU Pukke’s Elsunet du Plessis is currently making waves at the Netball World Cup after playing a key role in her side’s 68-40 victory over Wales this past Tuesday.
The lanky Puk made use of her various skills to contribute 8 goals as well as achieve an 81% shooting average. She also made 4 turnovers to disrupt the Welsh ladies charge for a probable win. South Africa had a rough start to the tournament as they went down 58-51 to their arch rivals Malawi.
Since then the team has regrouped with coach Norma Plummer who allowed her years of experience to do the talking. South Africa made a sluggish start in the beginning but got to grips with the pace of the match, dictating proceedings as their class shone through in the end.
The second half was complete domination as South Africa scored 24 points in the third quarter as opposed to Wales’ 11. Plummer was pleased with her team’s effort and applauded their initiative to create more movement in the second-half.
“I was a bit disappointed in the first half when they were a little flat, but I made some changes at halftime and brought some new life into their movement.”
