Cosmos need more wins in 2016

The sound of jingle bells, Christmas carols and firecrackers might have ushered in the New Year, but the start of 2016 will not be complete for Cosmos fans without the sound of cheering fans and thunderous vuvuzelas.

The taste of victory in January will be as sweet as leftover Christmas pudding for Jomo Cosmos, which is currently in 14th place on the Absa Premiership log. It is time to start afresh and make 2016 a memorable year after a stop-start end to 2015.

Cosmos has scored 8 goals in its league campaign while conceding 15 goals so far in the season. Thrown into the mix have been three 0-0 draws, with the match at home against Kaizer Chiefs standing out the most in their hat trick of goalless draws.

Their inconsistent form must be a worrying factor for Jomo Cosmos as they have not been able to secure consecutive wins this season.

Ezenkosi has been able to record two victories against Polokwane City and Chippa United, though, both at their home ground at Olën Park.

The 4-3 win over Chippa United was the match of the season for Cosmos thus far as the team finally managed to score a bunch of goals. One of the key men in the goal-scoring department this season has been Zimbabwean striker, Denver Mukamba.

Coach Jomo Sono will hope that Mukamba continues his scoring form in the opening match of the new year against Tuks in Pretoria. Cosmos’ first home match will be against Ajax Cape Town on Sunday 17 January and that will be followed by another home encounter against Orlando Pirates on Saturday 23 January.

If Cosmos can bag 6 points from these three matches in January, they will see their PSL boat to be on steady waters.  If not, they could look in the direction of a bridge over troubled waters.
