The 2016 Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League has drawn to a close with the North West Flames once again failing to make the most of their impressive form in the group stages by ending fourth overall.

The North West Flames looked unstoppable in the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League but fell to an inspired Free State Crinums side by 45-42 in a heated semi-final. The Crinums eventually won the tournament, beating the Gauteng Jaguars 52-43.

The Crinums’ Maryka Holtzhausen and the returning Karla Mostert were brilliant on the night and came back from a large deficit to surprise the Flames who had been playing good netball for the duration of the match with Sigi Burger, Renske Stoltz and Romé Dreyer in good form.

The good news for North West netball is that three players have been chosen to form part of the SA Netball squad to take on Wales in a test match series this month. They are Sigi Burger, Renske Stoltz, and Jeanté Strydom for the u.21 team.

The coach, Dorette Badenhorst was also selected as an assistant coach of the Proteas coaching team that also consists of Norma Plummer (head coach) and Nicole Cusack.
