The North West University has an active team of canoeists who participate in the river races and are looking forward to the Fish river next month . Under 23 Ockert Olivier finished the 64km race in a time of 5 hours 52 minutes with ease!

For a change the weather in the Free State co-operated and the 64km two day river race hosted by the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club (Emmarentia Dam) and sponsored by Eurosteel from Reitz to Tweeling had superb weather.

The river flows well as water is pumped from the Lesotho Highlands Project to the Vaal Dam and there are enormous enjoyable fun wave trains around corners for the paddlers to enjoy their buildup of stamina and gain good seeding for the upcoming A grade Hansa Fish Canoe Marathon in October in Cradock.

The Hansa Fish River Canoe Marathon takes place the first weekend of October as paddlers go into panic mode to increase mileage and training for the 80km 2 day event of big fast flowing white water.  SEE:  https://fishmarathon.org.za/
