The Heritage Cricket Festival once again showcased some of the best school cricket talent that the country has to offer as 18 schools did battle out on various cricket fields in Potchefstroom from 2-4 September.
The tournament, which Potchefstroom Boys High School proudly hosts each year, was a major success this year and, for once, was not hampered by rain as in previous years. Vast amounts of sunshine greeted the players each day as they aimed to impress those in attendance.
The 27 matches were played at Potchefstroom Boys High, Potchefstroom Gimnasium, Hoër Volkskool Potchefstroom, PMSC Cricket fields, Ferdinand Postma, Witrand Cricket Club and Mohadin cricket fields.
A few former Old Boys such as Wally Hopton, who matriculated in 1945 and Dick Daly (1953) were also present at the gala dinner that commemorated the event.
Alex Paiva, the organiser, believes this year’s tournament’s success was largely due to the well-managed facilities where all the cricket matches were played. “It was amazing. Definitely the best Heritage Cricket Festival of the past 16 years. The facilities and conditions were excellent. All those involved must be given credit for the outstanding cricketing conditions.”
Boys High won one match against Fourways and lost two matches against Randburg and Redhill Private School.
