Senwes Spinners tournament another big success

Senwes and North West Cricket hosted the eleventh edition of the Senwes Spinners Farm School tournament in Potchefstroom from 31 March – 2nd April 2017.
A total of 130 farm school learners and 20 teachers participated in the tournament. The ten schools that took part were Rabana Primary School (Ventersdorp), Humansvlakte Primary School (Bothaville), Manana Primary School (Lichtenburg), Nampo Combined Agricultural School (Bothaville), Dr Sello Primary School (Viljoenskroon), Rusoord Primary School (Vereeniging), Mponeng Primary School (Viljoensrus, Potchefstroom), Tlhabologo Primary School (Rooipoortjie, Potchefstroom), Phakela Primary School (Hartbeesfontein) and Pelonomi Intermediate (Stilfontein).
The teams were accommodated at HTS Potchefstroom for the duration of the tournament.
Bowlers raised the bar during the event Z a total of four players took 5-wicket hauls, seven players took 4-wicket hauls and fifteen players took 3-wicket hauls compared to the four batsmen who scored fifty runs and one who scored a century.
The top bowler during the tournament was Thabo Chawe (Dr Sello Primary School) with total bowling figures of 6 matches, 6 innings, 15.3 overs, 5 maidens, 57 runs, 15 wickets, 6/3 best bowling in an innings with a strike rate of 3.35. The top batsman during the tournament was Dean de Bruin (Humansvlakte Primary School) with total batting figures of 6 matches, 6 innings, 3 not outs, 1 century, 1 fifty, 20 fours, 12 sixes, a high score of 103* runs, scoring 197 runs at an average of 197).
The tournament started with five T20 matches on Friday and a total of 15 matches on Saturday. On the last day, a total of ten matches were played. Altogether, 30 matches were played at HTS Potchefstroom’s A and B fields, Ferdinand Postma High School and De Wilge High School’s A and B fields.

The teams were then taken to Senwes Park, Potchefstroom on Friday night to watch the NPL T20 tournament and they were treated to a movie at Sterkinekor-Mooirivier Mall on Saturday.
North West Cricket also provided coaches to assist teams with warm-ups, cricket awareness during matches and scouting for players who will be selected for the Senwes Spinners’ high-performance team to be announced after the Senwes Spinners Farm School Final. The schools were also competing for two spots to participate in the Senwes Spinners Farm School Final at Senwes Park on 13 May. The two schools that will be participating are Humansvlakte and Manana primary schools.
