It seems that mountain biking is another facet that NWU-Pukke can add to their list of sporting achievements with students and experienced mountain bikers, Brandon van der Berg and Kristen ‘Nooi’ Louw taking respective first places to lead the first ever Student MTB Cup.
This brand new initiative sees student mountain bikers from across the country battling it out for the top spot in a series of races, the first of which took place at Bekker High School on Sunday, 13 August. Van der Berg and Louw were too good for the other 32 competitors on the day and they seized the leader’s jerseys. The main goal of this series is to bridge the gap between high school’s Spur XCO series and the u.23 and elite racing categories.
This seems to be working, with former Spur School Series champions, Van der Berg and Louw making the grade in this new level of cycling.
