The Proteas women’s cricket team took a 2-0 lead in the series against Bangladesh with a ferocious 9-wicket mauling of the visitors at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom today.

The Tigers’ batting lineup was absolutely toothless as the Proteas bowlers tamed their counterparts to 89 all out in only 39.5 overs. The Bangladeshis who opted to bat first, were in trouble early on as they found themselves at 10/3 after Ayabonga Khaka (3/13) struck in the first hour of play. Wickets fell in a procession as the spin of Raisibe Ntozakhe (3/16) and Dane van Niekerk (1/10) bamboozled the visitors. The only resistance came from Panna Ghosh (20*) and Jahanara Alam with a patient 18 (54) in a 37 run 9th wicket stand.

In reply SA’s dangerous opening pair of Laura Wolvaardt (37 off 50) and Lizelle Lee 32 (37) put on a commanding 65 run partnership before Salma Khatun got the wicket of Lee, caught in the deep. The wicket though only delayed the inevitable as Trisha Chetty and Wolvaardt steered the side to victory reaching their target at 90/1 before the lunch break.
