The NWU’s Varsity Netball team made the perfect start to the 2018 Varsity Netball campaign with two wins over the opening weekend of the competition.
They started with a 77–27 thrashing of UJ last Sunday, before taking on the defending champions, Tuks, and beating them 81–73 in a well-contested match.
The NWU were too strong for the Pretorians as a superb defensive display from vice-captain Monique Reyneke led the team to a win. Credit is also due to the team’s quick eyes in front of the goalpost, with Sigi Burger and Jessica du Plessis scoring goals at every opportunity.
The NWU will play newcomers UWC on Sunday, 2 September at 17:30, before they face VUT on Monday at 17:30. Both matches will take place at the Callie Human Hall in Bloemfontein.
