The NWU’s Varsity Netball team continued their impressive form this season with a comprehensive 93–61 win against UWC in Bloemfontein on Sunday, 2 September.
The match was closer than expected with the University of the Western Cape putting up a real fight in the first two quarters of the match. They trailed by five points (37–32) at the half-time break.
The NWU’s captain, Romé Dreyer had a fantastic match in the centre of the court. She kept the attack going with brilliantly executed passes.
The UWC goalkeeper, Savannah Kasner also had a great match and kept the NWU’s goal shooters at bay.
The key to the NWU’s win was their use of the second power play when they extended their lead to 19 points. Sigi Burger and Jessica du Plessis were once again on top form during this match and showed their skills in front of goal during the latter stages of the match.
