It was a sweltering day out in the middle at Senwes Park this morning at the start of the first day of the CSA Provincial 3-Day match between the North West Dragons and South Western Districts (SWD).

When rain intervened a couple of minutes ago, SWD had posted 246/6 after batting first. Marcello Piedt was one of SWD’s chief protagonists as he smashed 76* (54) in a swashbuckling knock after lunch. Earlier, Leltlotlo Sesele and Obus Pienaar both stroked their way to fifties as well.

It was Dragons’ captain, Brady Barends who was the hero for NW on day 1 with a five-for (5/42) as his nagging accuracy and consistency gave him maximum reward. The other NW bowlers were a bit expensive in some of their spells and will need to bring the run rate down when the teams get bakc on the park tomorrow.
