It has been a season to remember thus far for the 22-year old, former NWU and North West Dragons opener, Janneman Malan, who made the grade to international level with a fine performance in his debut T20 International match against Pakistan.

Malan put on his green and gold kit for the first time this past Sunday (3 February) at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium against the tourning Pakistan team and made a fine 33 (31) before succombing to the spin of Imad Wasim via a stumping.

Malan hit 3 fours and 2 sixes in his knock showcasing his potential on the biggest stage. Malan built his reputation as a fine attacking batsman in Potchefstoom for the NWU-Puk and the North West Dragons and has been in sparkling form since his move to the Cape Cobras this season.

His form in the Msanzi Super League for the Cape Town Blitz put him in contention for a national call up as he scored 305 runs at an average of 33.88. His strike rate of 125.21 also showcased his knack for finding boundaries with consumate ease.

Malan can be satsified with the start to his international career where he showed glimpses of his ever-growing potential and will look to build on with a couple more innings in national colours, akin to those he made in maroon for 3 seasons.

Malan was born in Nelspruit, formed at Hoërskool Waterkloof and groomed in Potchefstroom. His game will only improve with time, and if he continues playing his natural game, then SA can bank at having one of the most dangerous white ball players at their disposal.
