The Potchefstroom mountain bike supremo, Pieter du Toit, took the overall 23rd place at the recent Absa Cape Epic mountain bike stage race from 17 to 24 March. He rode for the Pyga Euro Steel team with his teammate, Philemon Sebona and had a fantastic week; they took on the tough course, finishing in a time of 28:41.29. The eventual winners of the race were the Swiss duo of Nino Schurter and Lars Forster who came home in a time of 26:09.45. The top-placed SA team was made up of Alan Hatherly and Matthew Beers in 26:47.12.
This was Du Toit’s second Cape Epic after debuting in 2018 also as Sebona’s partner. This duo has formed a tight connection in events and this is just a short preview of what Du Toit is capable of as the youngster aims for higher honours.
