The North West Dragons endured a seesaw Provincial T20 tournament last weekend (13–15 September). They could only end up with a 50-per cent record, ending the group stage in a disappointing third place.
The Dragons were the home team in group C and faced off against Western Province, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Border. The Dragons managed to beat Western Province by a super over in the first encounter. But then, inexplicably, they lost to Limpopo by seven wickets, thanks to the bowling of Andrew Rasemene (3/32) and batting of Andrea Agathangelou with a blistering 56 (34)*.
North West made a comeback in their next game with a crushing 44-run win against a beleaguered Mpumalanga side. Shane Dadswell (42 off 30 balls) and Ruan Haasbroek (45 off 24)* took the Dragons to victory. Katle Leokaoke (3/26) was also instrumental with his leg-spin.
North West had to beat Border to progress to the semi-finals of the competition. But, they fell short by 41 runs, despite Wihan Lubbe (30) and Nicky van den Bergh (34) putting up resistance with the bat.
