The North West University can once again boast that they deliver SA’s top netball stars after the NWU Netball captain, Monique Reyneke, was called up to the Proteas squad for the upcoming Africa Netball Cup from 18-22 October.
Reyneke has now been rewarded for her fantastic form in the Varsity Netball tournament and this defender will undoutably be a shining light in the national set up. Reyneke will get her first cap in the tournament and this call up is something that she has definitely deserves.
Reyneke previously represented SA at u.21 level but has now made the senior squad of 12 for the first time.
“It is a huge honour to be selected for the group of 12 that will play for the Proteas. It is really a wow moment for me as only a handful of players gets such an opportunity,” said an elated Reyneke.

Reyneke will also play under the former NWU coach and mentor, Dorette Badenhorst, who was recently appointed as the women’s national coach. Former NWU players, Renske Stoltz, Sigi Burger and Romé Dreyer is also part of the squad.
In a press release, Dorette Badenhorst, Proteas Netball coach said that she looked forward to take on the African countries in this tournament:
“All the four teams that competed at the 2019 Netball World Cup did very well, they finished in the top 10. I will never underestimate, they are very physical and never easy to play against because of their heights. We will prepare very well against them and make sure that we are better prepared especially against Malawi on Friday and the other opponents. The goal is to win this tournament and remain the best ranked team in the continent.”
