Potch Dorp Rugby Club elects first ever all women’s board

In only three years, they have grown into the top women’s team in the North West Province as Leopards’ champions.

Potchefstroom Dorp Rugby Club’s women’s representation has grown in leaps and bounds this year. It has flourished so much that, in December 2019, the first-ever all women’s board was elected as an umbrella committee, under the auspices of Potch Dorp Rugby Club.

This is quite a historic achievement for the women, who started the team at Potch Dorp in 2017. In only three years, they have grown into the top women’s team in the North West Province as Leopards’ champions. In 2019, they never lost a single match and will be looking to make 2020 a year to remember, although lockdown is currently putting a halt to further progress.

Still, the women’s chairperson, Hetta Pretorius, is confident that this will be a year of further success and improvement for women’s rugby.

“We only started in 2017, with a dream and a small group of women with the same vision. If all goes well, we will start this new season with our women’s senior team of 15 “men” rugby and 7s rugby later in the year. We want to start girls’ rugby and expand to primary schools and in our local community,” she stated.

The team currently needs sponsor-ship and would appreciate any help they can get. For enquiries, contact Hetta Pretorius on 082 898 2719.

In December 2019, Potchefstroom Dorp Rugby Club held an establishment meeting and the first all women’s board was elected. It consists of:

Henriette Pretorius: Chairperson

Melony Brooks: Vice chairperson/secretary

Melissa Coetzee: Treasurer

Vlooi Theron: Additional member: player representative

Sumé van Wyk: Additional member: team manager

Jakes Jacobs: Head coach

Jackie Kriel: Team coach

Tshegofatso Tladi: Additional players representative

Refiloe Molebeledi: Additional member (homeground guardian)

Nadine van Reenen: Additional member/marketing

Sanet Ludick: Additional member – founder
