Dragons and Central Gauteng share the spoils

The Dragons won the toss and elected to bat first posting 308 all out. This was largely due to a terrific career best knock from opener, Lesego Senokwane who hit 158 (291) which included 14 fours and 2 sixes.

The North West Dragons and the Central Gauteng Lions ended their Pool D campaign in Potchefstroom with a draw in the CSA 3-day competition after no side could get the upper hand throughout an intriguing contest at the NWU Oval from 26-28 March.

The Dragons won the toss and elected to bat first posting 308 all out. This was largely due to a terrific career best knock from opener, Lesego Senokwane who hit 158 (291) which included 14 fours and 2 sixes.

Ruan Haasbroek with 55 (77) also contributed with the bat in the first innings. The rest of the top and middle order could not manage much as the Gauteng bowlers regularly took wickets.

Ari Karvelas with 2/34 was the pick of the Gauteng bowlers. In reply, Gauteng managed 329 all out in reply with their captain, Shaylen Pillay anchoring the innings with a superb 126 (307). Pillay’s partnership with Wesley Marshall (75) made things difficult for the Dragons.

Things got easier when Jacobs dismissed Marshall as the middle order could not consolidate. Chad Classen with 5/54 and AJ Jacobs with 4/64 were the top bowlers for the NW Dragons.

The Dragons second innings started poorly when both openers where dismissed for ducks. It though ended better on 93/2 with Haasbroek (53) and Chris Britz (30) still at the crease when stumps were called on day 3.
