The women from the local Potchefstroom bowling clubs made sure they were noticed during the annual Bowls South Africa National Tournament from 8 to16 May.
This tournament is played in formats of singles, pairs and fours, enlisting participants from all over the country, including some of the best players in South Africa.
The mother and daughter team, Natasha and Rhonda Kalis from Potchefstroom Town Club, with Segametsi Mokoto, Baybee Mojanaga, Anna-Marie Coetzee, Lezandri Hildebrand and Laetitia Wolvaard from Potchefstroom Country Club (PCC), all participated in the different categories of the tournament.

The team of Sega, Baybee, Rhonda and Natasha, collectively representing Potchefstroom Town, achieved great success, winning silver in the Fours category final play-offs, out of 66 teams. Rhonda and Natasha clinched the bronze medal in the Pairs category; no small victory, considering that there were 137 teams in contention.
Lezandri, the only under-20 player in the Open Singles category, qualified for the preliminary play-offs by winning her section.
However, she, unfortunately, fell out of the competition in the knock-out round.

This sport has seen significant growth in North West over the past few years. An ever-increasing number of players are participating at a national level and there is an influx of young players joining the clubs. Bowls is well known for being a family sport, enjoyed by both young and old. Feel free to visit the local clubs for more information.
