The Proteas cricket team recently completed a short training camp in Potchefstroom from 22 to 24 August, in preparation for the upcoming ODI and T20 series in Sri Lanka in September.

The Proteas utilised the fantastic facilities at North West Cricket’s home ground of Senwes Park and stayed at the NWU Sports Village. North-West Dragons all-rounder, Dwaine Pretorius, is also part of the ODI and T20 squad for Sri Lanka after returning from injury.

Pretorius will undoubtedly be one of the key players for SA in Sri Lanka and the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE from 17 October to 14 November.

Proteas ODI captain, Temba Bavuma, stated in a virtual press conference on Monday, 23 August, that the team had enjoyed solid preparation, sorting out a few kinks before jetting off to Sri Lanka.

“We expect a tough challenge in Sri Lanka. We have an opportunity to once again be successful in those conditions. We can’t prepare for the heat in our current training environment, but we will adapt once we are in Sri Lanka,” he said.

He added that the spinner-friendly conditions in Sri Lanka will be a good experience ahead of the all-important T20 World Cup in the UAE.

“The bowling group has been stretched in the past matches, but this tour gives the batters a chance to adapt to the conditions accordingly. It will be good experience for the team,” he stated.

The three match ODI series start on Thursday 2 September in Sri Lanka.
