It was a tough day at the office for the NWU netball team in their Varsity Netball match against Kovsies going down by 76-52.

Kovsies were the better team on the day and showed the form that has now put them on top of the Varsity Netball table with one match to go.

The NWU find themselves in third spot on the table with UJ and Tuks behind them with a game in hand. The NWU must pull themselves together again in a must win clash tomorrow against the NMU-Madibaz in order to secure a semi-final place.

Kovsies were on top of their game today against the NWU taking a 38-28 lead at half-time. Claudia van den Berg was in top form for Kovsies with her shooting, whilst Ane Retief also did some stellar work in defense. The NWU also struggled with their distribution during the game with Kovsies reading the plays and taking advantage of the strategic lapses from the NWU.

Kovsies’ experienced head coach, Burta de Kock, was definitely the master tactician today as all her plans fell in place.

The NWU will need to go back and work on playing stress free netball and minimising their mistakes, as top teams can quickly exploit.
