Potch Dorp 1 got their first win with a comprehensive 106-run victory against Travelling Reefs.

The second round of action in the Wohnen/Top Paints NW Club Cricket Premier League was red hot, much like the weather on a sweltering Saturday, 9 October.

Potch Dorp 1 got their first win with a comprehensive 106-run win against nearby neighbours, Travelling Reefs. Potch Dorp scored 293/9 in 50 overs at the Witrand Oval, thanks to Muhammad Minty’s 71 (106).

Zian de Jager took 5/49 with the ball to help dismiss Reefs for 187. CJ Ferreira scored 60 (58) for Travelling Reefs in a lost cause. Ibbies and NWU 1 battled to a close finish at the NWU Oval with Ibbies grinding out a two-wicket win against an understrength NWU 1 side.

This was due to numerous top players playing for the NW Dragons over the weekend. NWU 1 batted first and made 186 all out, with Tumelo Banda hitting a run a ball 59. Christian van Dyk (3/37) and Connor de Boer (3/23) were the top bowlers for Ibbies.

Ibbies’ chase was anchored around the outstanding Estiaan Schonfeld, who scored a patient 77 (127) in a winning chase.

The dependable AJ Jacobs (4/31) and Banda (4/20) almost pulled off the win for NWU 1 but Ibbies stood firm to complete the narrow victory.

The NWU Colts completed an easy seven-wicket victory against the Geek Cricket Academy, while NWU Taurus defeated Ramblers by 10 wickets.

Former champions in the 2018/19 season, Impala Precrete, also showed that they mean business this year with a massive 197-run win against Mahikeng.

Twelve teams are competing in this season’s club league with NWU Taurus currently topping the log.
