NW Dragons women go down to Dolphins in low scoring thriller

In a low scoring affair, the Dolphins managed to win by 13 runs after posting a total of 172/9.

The Dolphins women picked up a surprise win against the defending one day champions, the North West Dragons women at Witrand Oval yesterday (Saturday, 24 September).

This was also the 2022/23 season opener for the CSA Women’s One Day Cup.

In a low scoring affair, the Dolphins managed to win by 13 runs after posting a total of 172/9 in their 50 overs. They then proceeded to bowl the Dragons out for 159.

The match winner for the Dolphins was Nicole de Klerk who scored 95 (119) when most batters struggled on the day.

Nthabiseng Nini (2/28), Evodia Yekile (2/40) and Anneke Bosch (2/8) were the standout bowlers for North West.

In reply, the NW Dragons women stuttered on their chase. They lost two quick wickets, but Izel Cilliers (45 off 65 balls), and Anneke Bosch (41 off 53 balls) stabilised the innings with an 87 run partnership.

The last 7 wickets fell for only 55 runs as the Dolphins bowlers, Seshnie Naidu (2/25), Kiara Fisher (2/21) and Jade de Figuerido (2/36) cleaned up the lower order in quick time to snatch the win.

These two sides meet again today in a CSA T20 provicial cup encounter at the Witrand Oval. The match starts at 10:00.
