An elated Cloete states that the game plan to take Nakana to the ground worked perfectly, as he knew that his opponent was strong in stand-up fighting.

“To be 3-0 in the flyweight category in EFC is an amazing feeling. I have really worked hard for this and it’s fantastic to experience the hard work paying off,” added Cloete.

His next ambition is get the number one contender spot for the flyweight title this year. After such a commanding performance, it seems that this will be on the cards sooner, rather than later.

“I’ve always focused on being an all-round fighter. I practice my abilities on the ground, just as much as my stand-up. That definitely helps me in various situations and my opponents sometimes underestimates that,” mentions Cloete.

Cloete thanks his club and coach, Roevan de Beer, as well as numerous other people for the effort and time they put in to ensure that he is always fight-ready.

“Roevan puts in a lot of time and planning in my training. David “Malperd” McKenzie, Brandon Santos, Sensei Stephan Brown and coach Bart Potgieter of Mighty Warriors in Vanderbijlpark also helped me a lot,” he says.

This fighter also knows that he can’t perform at his best if it was not for the grace of God and his wife and family for their support.

“Thank you to the Lord for the opportunities that He gives me and the path that He walks with me.”
