NW u.13 Urban post mammoth score at Regional Week

Connor Alexander of Potchefstroom Central School smashed 127 off 69 balls, whilst Boitumelo Skunka of Saints Christian School also added a handy 58 (47) in their score of 459/6.

The North West Urban u.13 team may have finished 14th out of 22 teams at the u.13 Regional Week in Johannesburg from 2-5 December, but they also showcased their talent in full view.

The team won two matches, against KZN Inland Blue and Mpumalanga Black Rhinos. They also scored 3 fifties and two hundreds over the course of the week.

NW Urban beat Mpumalanga Black Rhinos by 35 runs in a T20 match after hitting 130/8. The bowlers then did the job to bowl Mpumalanga out for 95.

Omaatla Thapelo of Potchefstroom Central School was one of the heroes picking up figures of 4/15 in 4 overs.

Their most successful match was against KZN Inland Blue who they dismantled by 329 runs. NW Urban batted first and made 459/6 in 50 overs. Connor Alexander of Potchefstroom Central School smashed 127 off 69 balls, whilst Boitumelo Skunka of Saints Christian School also added a handy 58 (47).

Ulrich Ollewagen with 118 (104) and Riekert Kruger with 54 (55) both of Laerskool Saamtrek in Klerksdorp also played superb knocks.

KZN Inland Blue was then skittled out for only 130 in 32.4 overs. Katiso Mofokeng (Saints) took 3/21 and Hanru Combrink (Mooirivier) took 2/33.

Mofokeng picked up 12 wickets at a bowling average of 11.67 and strike rate of 13 in the tournament. He duly ended as one of the top 10 bowlers overall.

  • North West Urban u.13 vs KZN Inland Blue – won by 329 runs
  • North West Urban u.13 vs Dolphins Green – lost by 9 wickets
