Dragons u.19 girls start national week with victories

Gimmie star, Deidré van Rensburg hit 77 and Karabo Lemphane of Boitoko Tech scored 70.

The North West u.19 girls cricket team showcased their talent early on in the CSA u.19 National Week in Cape Town from 10-14 December.

The u.19 team comprehensively beat Boland by 209 runs in their first match of the tournament. North West scored 267/9 in their 50 overs with Gimmie star, Deidré van Rensburg hitting 77 and Karabo Lemphane of Boitoko Tech scoring 70.

The NW bowlers then went for the kill dismissing Boland for a meagre 58. Palesa Lethuri took three wickets for only four runs. Lerato Kotokoane (3/18) and Ané Saunderson (2/6) also contributed to the victory.

The Dragons bowlers were once again on top form on the second day against Kei in a match that the former won by 142 runs. Kei were bowled out for only 63 with Lethuri (3/9), Saunderson (2/8) and Lemphane (2/5) continuing their good form.

Deidré van Rensburg, Lerato Kotokoane, Karabo Lemphane and Ané Saunderson showed their class during the 2023 u.19 CSA Girls Cricket Week in Cape Town.

Koketso Lesenyego of Boitoko Tech scored a gritty 61 that took her side to 205/7. She was also named as the player of the match.

North West though came unstuck on day 3 against a strong Titans team losing by 6 wickets. North West batted first and made 122 all out. Nthabiseng Nini top scored for North West with 22. In reply, the Titans reached the total with ease. SA u.19 star, Simoné Laurens scored a classy 52.
