Hermann heroics take Dragons to emphatic victory

Rubin Hermann hit a magnificent 96 not out to take the Dragons to victory in front of an appreciative home crowd this afternoon.

Rubin Hermann was the hero once again as he smashed an unbeaten 96 (56 balls) to take the North West Dragons to a comprehensive 7-wicket victory against the Boland Rocks at the J.B. Marks Oval on Thursday, 21 March.

Hermann hit 9 fours and 5 sixes on his way to a second half-century in the competition. His scores in the past three games are 90, 102, 25 and 96*. His rich vein of form is a massive plus for the Dragons, as he played with confidence in the chase of 147 for victory.

Although a couple of wickets fell around him, Hermann still managed to steer the Dragons ship with rain clouds looming around the J.B. Marks Oval.

The Dragons managed to keep ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis par score, despite spinner, Imraan Manack taking a couple of wickets (2/16) in his four overs.

Wihan Lubbe (23 off 16) hit a few important boundaries in their partnership of 38 for the third wicket.

Earlier on,  the Dragons bowlers had the Rocks rolling over in their innings as they were reduced to 50/5 after 10 overs.

Migael Pretorius bowled brilliantly to take career-best figures of 4/14.

Imraan Manack was the pick of the Rocks bowlers taking 2/16.

The catalyst was paceman, Migael Pretorius, who picked up career best figures of 4/14 with the ball.

The Rocks though managed to dig themselves out of a hole with Ferisco Adams (50* off 39 balls) helping his side to 146/6.

The Dragons will feel that they should have kept the score under 120. In the end, it proved not enough as Hermann lit up the J.B. Marks Oval with his batting to take the Dragons to their second win.

This victory takes the Dragons to fifth spot on the log on 11 points ahead of the Titans on 8 points, who have a game in hand.

The Dragons next face the unbeaten Warriors at St. Georges Park on Sunday, 24 March. The Warriors are first on the log on 23 points.

Interestingly, Rubin’s younger brother, Jordan, plays for the Warriors. He scored 23* in the Warriors’ win against Western Province today.
