Saints’ U19 girls cricket team are the Noordvaal champions after defeating Nkowankowa Hub from Tzaneen by three wickets in the final in Pretoria.
This first-time win is a major historic milestone in Saints’ history and showcases how far the girls have come! Saints are now the best girls’ cricket team North of the Vaal River.
The win was set up by a brilliant bowling display to restrict the opposition to only 77/9 in 20 overs. It was a tense chase, but in the end, Siphumelele “Ice Tea” Duma kept her cool to hit the winning boundary with two balls to spare.
Earlier on, Saints beat Hoërskool Middelburg by eight wickets in the semi-final. Saints restricted their opposition to 110/7 in 20 overs. Duma took 2/12 in four overs in a superb team bowling effort. They then reached the target comfortably in only 13 overs. The Captain, Tshegofatso Monyela made 39 from 33 balls, with Jessica “Chief” Joshua hitting the winning runs. Joshua made 33 not out from 27 balls.
Saints will participate in the SA20 tournament early next year, as they will represent North-West against top schools in the country.
