The Executive Mayor of JB Marks Local Municipality, Cllr Gaba Thithiba ka Qhele together with the Minister of Transport, Ms. Barbara Creecy gave back to the community of Tsetse Village, near Ventersdorp on International Mandela Day (July 18).
They participated in the refurbishment of the local community hall which had previously been vandalised and left in a poor condition.
This initiative was part of prior commitment that Minister Creecy had made to the Tsetse community to start a comprehensive refurbishment of the facility.
The refurbishment project will include repairs to the damaged walls, replacement of floor tiles, installation of new window panes and doors, rehabilitation of the perimeter fence, renovation of the ablution facilities, repairs to the roof and ceiling, as well as the restoration of the electrical wiring and electricity supply.
The work will continue until all identified repairs have been completed. Residents of Tsetse Village joined officials from the Department of Transport and JB Marks Local Municipality in commemorating Nelson Mandela Day through community service.
“A local contractor will contribute the materials and labour. The community complained in June that government services weren’t in good order. The parliamentary constituency office has partnered with JB Marks to sort out the problems. Today is a day where we make sure that we respond to the needs of the community and build strong relations with the community,” added Creecy.
The Executive Mayor of JB Marks reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to improving service delivery and infrastructure in Tsetse Village.
“We have made a commitment to deploy security in the area so that this asset is properly guarded. Our community can then enjoy the facilities again,” he added.
He further announced that the Municipality will repair the community borehole, upgrade internal roads, extend the paved road from the local school to connect with the main road, create employment opportunities, and provide security, an administrator, and cleaners to ensure that the community hall is properly managed and maintained.
The Executive Mayor further indicated that once all refurbishment work has been completed, he and Minister Creecy will jointly officiate the formal reopening of the community hall.
