Ikalafeng special school will be hosting a fun colour run on Friday, 23 September. Members of the community who are interested in taking part will be allowed an opportunity to register an hour before the race.
According to a member of the School Governing Body (SGB), Brain Mayo, the event is not solely about raising funds for appropriate equipment for the learners at the school but also to help raise awareness for disabled children. “ What makes this fundraiser extra special is because this is the first time that we as a school involve the community,” he said.
“ Many parents with disabled children are often discouraged because there aren’t many schools or facilities that cater for children with special needs. Therefore we are taking it upon ourselves our educate them,” Mayo explained.
Participants will be required to meet at the school before the race starts. The route will travel via Sarafina, Extension 6, the Roman Catholic church Extension 11 which is the route that leads back to the school.
