Hundreds of people, young and old, gathered at the North-West University (NWU) Rag Farm Stadium in Potchefstroom on June 16, where Youth Day was commemorated.
The day was celebrated with a series of high-profile engagements, including the official handover of a new multi-purpose Sports Facility at Promosa Secondary School. The day carried both celebratory and reflective tones, as government officials, community members, and youth from across the region participated in the events.
Deputy President Paul Mashatile, on behalf of President Cyril Ramaphosa, delivered the keynote address. This year’s theme was ‘Skills for the Changing World: Empowering Youth for Meaningful Economic Participation’.
The day’s programme began with Mashatile leading a delegation to Promosa Secondary School, where a new sports facility was officially unveiled and handed over.

Mashatile says the government will continue leading from the front in creating a conducive environment for economic growth, education, safety, and opportunity.
“To the youth, do not give up in pursuing a better future for yourselves and the country. Your voice, your ideas, and your energy are the fuel that can rebuild this country. We therefore invite you to be part of the upcoming National Dialogue to shape the future trajectory of our country.”
“To parents, teachers, and communities, let us support and guide our children. The government will continue leading from the front by creating a conducive environment for economic growth, education, safety, and opportunity.” “We must stand united in our commitment to creating a better tomorrow for the youth and generations to come.”
