Molefi murder case postponed to next week
The magistrate required a copy of the correctional report before court proceedings regarding the bail application of the accused, Mpho Mafoko, could continue.
The bail application hearing regarding the murder case of Thusi Levi Molefi (30) has been postponed to Tuesday, September 15.
The accused, Mpho Mafoko (33), appeared briefly in court for the second time this morning (Friday, September 11). He had previously made a first appearance on Tuesday, September 8.
The courtroom was filled to the brim with community members, awaiting a possible bail verdict. Many community members also stood in solidarity with Molefi’s family with signs outside of the court, illustrating their feelings regarding bail.
Magistrate Charles Eckley stated that he required the correctional report before being able to proceed with the bail application hearing. In terms of Section 62F of the Criminal Procedure Act, a court may, at any stage before a trial begins, add further bail conditions if requested by the Prosecutor in terms of correctional supervision.
The magistrate also added that the defence needed top provide more information regarding a possible alternative place of residence outside of Ikageng.
Mafoko will remain in custody until his next appearance on Tuesday, September 15 at the Potchefstroom Magistrates Court.
