Deep troubles

BROMHOF – Potholes and a damaged curve are a cause for concern to residents.

Residents are unhappy with the condition of the service road adjacent to President Fouche Road situated between Witdoring Road and CR Swart Drive, Bromhof.

The road has deep and wide potholes and a damaged curb.

Residents said they made numerous complaints to the Joburg Roads Agency over the past few months but nothing had been done.

Joy Hövener, trustee of Sonneglans Retirement Village said the road was overused and deteriorating.

“The road was no more than a rudimentary lane at best but the amount of traffic that is pouring onto it now is an impossible load,” she said.

Andre Bruinenberg, a resident in the area, decided to fill the potholes himself.

He filled them with grass because according to him grass did not wash away when it rained and did less damage to car tyres.

The agency’s spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers apologised to road users for the inconvenience caused by the road’s quality and said the agency would repair the road soon.

“The agency does not encourage residents to close potholes or do any repairs to road defects unless there is an agreement between the agency and the residents,” she added.

“There are standards and specifications that need to be adhered to when doing repairs. Any contractor wishing to do so must register with the agency.”
