Fixed CR Swart Drive brings mixed emotions
Residents are not happy about the newly fixed potholes on CR Swart Drive Boskruin, as they claim they were not expecting a patch job, but rather a fully new road.
Motorists and residents have been fearing for their lives due to potholes posing life-threatening situations on CR Swart drive in Boskruin, Randburg. Motorists have been forced to use one lane when driving, causing heavy traffic in the early mornings and afternoons. No longer, since the road has now been fixed, but is it really?.

Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) said the road has been attended to numerous times before, but due to the continuous heavy rains, which took place earlier this year, the road surface continued to deteriorate. They were also dealing with a leaking water-main pipe spewing into the road, which furthermore contributed to the road surface failing.

Head of department for regional operations Khaya Gqibitole said: “We prioritise pothole repairs according to their degree and extent. We also give priority to major roads and those near public spaces like schools. Our team has completed the repairs on CR Swart Drive, and our goal is to continually improve turnaround times and the durability of repairs.”

However, residents are not pleased with how these potholes have been fixed, as they keep on resurfacing due to the alleged temporary solution that JRA keeps applying to them.

Ward 101 councillor Ralf Bittkau said: “JRA needs to find a permanent solution when it comes to fixing the potholes on CR Swart Drive. [The holes] keep on resurfacing and that takes them back to square one. A solid and permanent solution for preventing these potholes from appearing again needs to be put in motion, and they must not forget to fix the major potholes that they missed on President Fouché Road to the N1.”
Although the road was recently opened to the public, residents still have complaints about the way that the potholes were fixed, as they were expecting a brand new and revamped road surface that would not be affected by rainfall.
