Mel Naidoo, head of department for Grade 7 and head of leaders, said leadership development begins early at the school. “We start as early as Grade 3 and Grade 4, by giving learners responsibilities in the classroom and within their grades. As they grow, they take on bigger roles, including serving on the LRC and leading outreach projects.”

She added that the school encourages leaders to look beyond themselves. “We adopt charities and work towards helping the community. We want to develop leaders who not only improve the school, but also make a difference in the wider community.”

Naidoo said many former leaders continue serving in leadership roles in high school and beyond.

Grade 7 learner Anothando Valashayi was announced as the 2026 head boy. He described the moment as unexpected. “It was pretty unexpected, but my friends told me they voted for me. That was exciting because it means they trust me.”

Anothando hopes to use his position to inspire others. “I want to be remembered as that one short leader who proved everyone wrong, that your size doesn’t matter. I want to leave opportunities for more people, and help change mindsets so learners choose the right path.”

Caitlin Roxanne Besnath was named head girl for 2026. She said she felt surprised, anxious, and excited. “I look forward to leading learners on the right path and making sure everyone does the right thing.”

The deputy head leaders are Nicole Mpofu for the girls and Nikhil Singh for the boys.

Principal Carl Oosthuizen and deputy principal Rene Lemmer congratulated the newly elected leaders, encouraging them to serve with integrity and pride as they represent the school throughout the year.
