Dozens of women celebrated sisterhood and lifelong service during a three-day Trefoil Guild event at the Girl Guides South Africa Randburg branch on October 11.
The gathering brought together members from 14 regions to empower women and mentor younger generations.

National Trefoil Guild president Jan Davidson said the initiative allowed experienced members to support local units with camps, badge work, catering and community service. She explained that the project created space for younger girls to develop into future leaders alongside older mentors.
“We want young people to know that the older people are not there to rule, but to help and share knowledge, so, one day, they see themselves in our shoes, leading Girl Guides towards a brighter future,” Davidson said.

The weekend featured arts, crafts, bingo, educational talks and making Christmas crackers.
Girl Guides South Africa national youth chairperson Nokuthula Naseem Mahlangu said the organisation gave young women a platform to contribute to change.

“From a youth’s perspective, being in a space where my voice still has value in a room with women who have so much wisdom, and them actually wanting to know my opinion, just gives me the view that, as women, we empower each other by looking at what problems we face genuinely and can vent without being judged,” Mahlangu said.
She added that guiding helped girls build confidence and break limiting stereotypes.
The event highlighted Tessa, a teddy bear representing the connection between the youngest members, known as Teddies, and the guild.
Phindile Mkabela, a member from Limpopo, shared her highlight of the weekend. “The educational talk about autism was one of my favourites because it helped me understand the spectrum better and what signs to look out for that I can take back to my region,” Mkabela said.
For members, the gathering strengthened intergenerational bonds and ensured experienced women continue to inspire future leaders.
