Basson to miss start of Currie Cup

Ankle injury rules Bulls speedster out with clash against Lions.

The Vodacom Blue Bulls have been dealt a big injury blow with the news that winger Bjorn Basson will miss the start of the 2014 Currie Cup.

The Bulls face their first Currie Cup fixture against the Golden Lions on 9 August in Johannesburg but will have to make do without Basson, who is still struggling with an ankle injury.

According to team doctor Org Strauss, Basson will miss at least the first month of the tournament, as will Jacques du Plessis, who is recovering from a broken jaw.

Hooker Callie Visagie is battling a back strain and will be rested for two weeks, but should be ready for the Lions game while the SA under-20 duo of Dan (calf) and Jesse Kriel (ankle) and Springbok JJ Engelbrecht will all be out for a week.
