Habana misses Commonwealth cut

"He will not take part as he missed the selection deadline.": SASCOC.

Springbok wing Bryan Habana will not be included in Team South Africa’s Rugby Sevens squad for the Commonwealth Games despite being released by his club, Toulon, on Tuesday.

The 2007 IRB Player of the Year had been picked in the original Team South Africa squad but according to a statement released by SASCOC, he will not take part in the competition as he missed the selection deadline.

The 31-year-old has had a great year with Toulon, winning the French Top 14 Championship and the Heineken Cup with the club, but will be unable to add a Commonwealth gold medal to the list should the Blitzbokke go that far.

The Sevens squad plays three matches on Saturday, against Trinidad & Tobago, the Cook Islands and Kenya, before the knockout matches and medal games on Sunday.

SA Sevens squad: Chris Dry, Kwagga Smith, Frankie Horne, Warren Whiteley, Cornal Hendricks, Kyle Brown, Branco du Preez, Mark Richards, Justin Geduld, Cecil Afrika, Werner Kok and Seabelo Senatla.
