Northern Academy’s Fred Romijn graduates with masters
Headmaster Fred Romijn began his masters journey four years ago and his thesis centred around the impact social media has on schools.
POLOKWANE -The headmaster of Northern Academy Secondary School, Fred Romijn, recently graduated with a Master’s degree in education management and law from the University of the North West.
He started the degree four years ago and his thesis centered around the impact social media has on schools.
“Despite Covid-19 and the lockdown, I soldiered on because learning is a lifelong concept and something all teachers should be doing. I hope to inspire learners to study harder and achieve their academic goals.”
He said he found his research interesting, as he had to focus on what is allowed on social media and what not, from learners and staff.
“It is important for learners to understand that element of what is allowed and what not, as social media is popular among learners and staff members.
“I will be using the knowledge I gained from the course to guide teachers and learners on how to use social media in schools and what they can post and what not.”
He thanked his parents and his wife for supporting him and encouraging him to complete the degree.
“Both my parents are academics. My father was a headmaster and my mother, a teacher. I always marvelled at their success and how they loved education. I want to carry on with their legacy. My family is always there for me in everything I do. I had a lot of challenges while doing the degree but they continuously supported me.”
