Kavir Ranchod (17) emerged as Mitchell House College’s top learner, earning two distinctions in his gr. 12 final examinations last year.
He spent his entire school career at Mitchell House in Polokwane.
With subjects like mathematics, Afrikaans, English, life science, physical science, business studies and mathematics paper three, this young man has a bright future ahead of him.
“My favourite subjects changed a lot, depending on who taught the subject.
“For the past year or so, my favourite subject was business stu-dies,” he said.
Kavir said he remembers that, when he was about four years old, he wanted to become a teacher.
“Hopefully I will be studying at the University of Cape Town in 2014, studying towards a degree in business science, specialising in computer science.
“The degree really appeals to all my interests,” he said.
He told Review that a balance between the various aspects of his life comes from being really organised, being able to accurately identify the amount of time needed for each task as well as an ability to handle stress very well.
He participated in soccer and cricket and was actively involved in the Business/Investments Club at Mitchell House College as well as the school’s computer club.
“In previous years I was also involved in photography at the school.”
Kavir said it was important to participate in extracurricular activities in order to gain knowledge in areas that he found interesting.
“Sport is just as important in order to grow physically as well as mentally,” he explained.
According to this intrepid young man, Nelson Mandela was his role model purely because he was an amazing example of perseverance and had an awe inspiring attitude of forgiveness towards others.
“My parents as well as my teachers made up my support system.
“In five years’ time I see myself having completed my four year degree and working in Cape Town,” he said.
