POLOKWANE – Zhanè Saais (18) has her head squarely on her shoulders and hopes to become a doctor to help as many people as possible.
Zhané matriculated as the number three best academic achiever of Mitchell House College with mathematics, physical science, life science, accounting, English, Afrikaans and life orientation as subjects. She obtained one distinction.
“My favourite subjects were accounting and life science as I grasped the work in these subjects easily,” she said.
When Zhané was seven years old, she wanted to become a doctor and she is still firmly on her way to make this dream come true. She plans to study medicine at the University of the Free State or the University of Pretoria. If that does not work out, her second option is to complete a learnership in accounting.
Zhané said she balanced her school work, sport and extra mural activities by planning and setting a timetable for herself. She participated in netball as a sport, as well as chess and drama as extra mural activities.
“My role model in high school remains Mr Taylor, the principal of Brebner High in Bloemfontein, who instilled a ‘never say die’ attitude in all his learners. My support system included my parents, sister and close friends,” she explained to Review.
