STUDENTS who passed their matric exams will have to deal with long queues in order to register at tertiary institutions.
Parents of students who want to study at the Capricorn FET in Polokwane complained to CV about the long queues they had to stand in.
Mamafa Ramo, a parent, said he was disappointed about this. “There are no chairs for parents to sit until they are called to sign forms.
We are forced to sit on the ground for many hours. I think there should be tents and enough chairs to accommodate elders.
“I would advise them to increase their pace and or create more registration centres to accommodate many people at once,” said Ramo.
He further called upon the department of education to monitor registration processes in higher learning institutions to make it easier.
One parent, who wanted to remain anonymous, said she had been standing in the queue from 04:00 in the morning until 15:30. “I have been standing for 12 hours and have to go back home without being assisted,” she said.
Phuti Setati, Capricorn FET College representative, said the queues were caused by the large number of new students who want to register.
“We cannot assist thousands of people at the same time. We have to make sure that there are no mistakes,” he said.
