LEARNERS of Papkuil Primary School have reason to smile after they received brand new school uniforms from local business owner, Victor Mokgotho, on Friday.
Mokgotho donated uniforms to 125 learners including shoes, shirts, trousers, skirts as well as jerseys with the school’s name on.
He also treated the learners and their teachers to a delicious take-away lunch.
The good Samaritan said he decided to donate uniforms to encourage learners to attend school and to forget that they came from poor backgrounds. He said he wanted to help those who felt neglected to feel better about themselves.
“I am here to show you that you are not alone. I want to make sure that you enjoy your school work,” he said.
Mokgotho said he chose Papkuil because the school was situated in the rural areas and seemed to be forgotten by others.
Papkuil Primary’s principal, Daniel Matlou, said the new uniforms would help instill pride in the learners. “We are very proud to have Victor here with us. He did not forget about the young people who are in need and we want to ask him to continue helping others,” he said.
Matlou said the school struggled with challenges like a shortage of classrooms and lack of electricity. “We also need more teachers,” he said.
Tladi Nthara, deputy manager of the Polokwane education circuit attended the event and said South Africa needed more people like Mokgotho.
“We want to encourage other business owners to open up their hearts and to help children in need,” he said.
