THE grandson of Nelson Mandela, Zwelivelile Mandla Mandela, visited two schools in Seshego on Friday and urged learners to focus more on their education.
Mandela, who is the chief of the Mveso Traditional Council, said he considered Limpopo his second home, as his mother came from Marishane village in the Sekhukhune district.
Mandela visited Moruleng and Khaiso High Schools to motivate learners.
He stressed that his grandfather believed that a society would be judged by the manner in which it treated its children.
“It is through education that one can change everything and my grandfather’s belief was that it was this generation’s duty to change this,” he said.
“It begins when you get onto the school premises. Discipline must be upheld. Gr. 12’s can take the school to higher places and we believe that you can change everything if you work as a collective,” Mandela explained.
He further said it was time that the legacy left by his grandfather be embraced to ensure that it lived forever. “Ensure that you help one another to achieve greatness,” Mandela said.
Mandela told learners about the Mandela School of Science and Technology.
Moruleng High School learner, Ronnie Mangwane (17), said he learned a lot from Mandela. “We are truly inspired and can now look forward to the challenges ahead of us,” he said.
Khaiso High School principal, Peter Gweba said they would strive for academic excellence.
