POLOKWANE – It has been a year since Share Joy Pre-school and Day Care opened their doors to learners.
Since then, the school has gone from strength to strength, starting the Share Joy Montessori at the beginning of the year.
Share Joy Montessori teacher, Aadilah Anver, said the Montessori method of teaching came from Dr Maria Montessori, who was the first women ever to graduate from the University of Rome’s Medical School.
“Montessori was a pioneer in the sorely under-researched field of education for mentally challenged children. She learned to apply much of what she found to education systems for children.
“Some of the first Montessori schools were opened in a reconstructed slum area in San Lorenzo, Italy,” said Anver.
Anver said the Montessori environments were prepared for three to six-year-olds.
“Montessori education is driven by an ambitious aim: to aid the child’s development into a complete adult human being, comfortable with themselves, with society and with humanity as a whole.
“The traditional approach to education remains focused on the transmission of prescribed blocks of knowledge.
“The Montessori approach is focused on giving support to the natural development of a child,” she said.
