POLOKWANE – With a smile, a hug and a rose, learners from Care Bears Day Care visited 50 older people in Westenburg in celebration of Valentine’s Day on Friday.
Tharcha Lefember, principal of Care Bears, said it was important to give back to the community by showing love.
“Who better to spoil than the elderly in the community. They are the ones who show more love to children than anyone else,” Lefember said.
The children went door to door and were received with love at each home.
Susan Peters (78) said it was amazing to see how much love a little child could have for a person they barely knew.
Katriena Kock (70) was overwhelmed and had tears in her eyes.
“The children made my Valentine’s Day complete and I will always remember this day. Thank you for the rose, I love flowers and I know this rose comes from their little hearts so I will cherish it forever,” Kock said.
Sophy Jantjies (86) couldn’t stop smiling.”I am very happy. It is nice to know that there are still people who think and care about us. Thank you very much,” Jantjies said.
But it was not just the elderly who were showered with gifts by the children, they also made cards for their parents in celebration of this day.
